We are Jeff and Judy Childs and would like you to visit our family owned restaurant which we purchased and named The Hillside House in 2001. Although it has been a restaurant for over 40 years, it started out as a regular home, but later was converted into a restaurant named A1's Pancake House to service the Motel that used to be next door. The Motel burned down in 2001 (the year we bought the restaurant).
We are known for our Million $ View and our home cooking here at the Hillside House Restaurant. We overlook Lake Huron and can see Mackinac Island from the deck and porch of the restaurant. In the summer the deck is usually full as people enjoying their meal outdoors and the nice weather that St. Ignace has in the summer months.
The Hillside House has been famous for breakfast since it was A1's Pancake House. Our Gourmet French toast is famous and has people coming back year after year for another helping of the tasty breakfast entre. We are also famous for our 3 egger omelets that are done only in the frying pan and are suffice to say, the best in the North Country, as boasted by many of our regular customers during the summer.
We offer a fish fry (which includes our delicious white fish) on Friday evenings from 4:30 to 9 and a home cooked buffet on Saturday evenings from 4:30 to 9. On busier weekends, we also offer our breakfast buffet. We offer a children's menu and kids under 12 pay half price on the buffets we offer. Whether you just want to enjoy a sandwich, a bowl of homemade soup, or a full meal, we will try to make your experience a memorable one! We have hosted many buses, church groups, wedding parties, birthday parties and just large groups of people having family reunions who want to share breakfast or dinner together. Our back room seats about 20 comfortably but we can accommodate 40-60 inside when we have buses and serve our delicious home cooked buffets. (We also offer a special price to large parties and usually a buffet for larger groups).
If you have never stopped by, please don't hesitate to contact us through the website or by telephone (906-643-8228). We are open from Mother's Day until October. We begin by offering breakfast and by Memorial Day are serving breakfast and dinner, with a break in between. Our lunch service usually begins the middle of June, whereby we are open every day seven days a week from 7:30 a.m. until 9:30 p.m.
We hope to meet you this summer. We are committed to offering you great food and a wonderful experience when you visit us. Just ask for Jeff or Judy, as one of us is usually on the premises. Otherwise, our son Jeff is usually in the kitchen cooking up some of his famous homemade soup!
Most importantly of all though, have a wonderful time on your vacation!
If you don't catch us this time around, remember us for next time when you visit God's country - the UP of Michigan. |
